A Guideline for society means to have a framework to live.
In the middle ages, the guideline was religion and not science.
The middle ages were guided by a kind of pseudo-religious belief where everything was based on something that could not be proven. Although lots of things were discovered at that time.
Saints and their relics were known for their miraculous cures, but they also performed
miracles according to the beliefs of the time.
Society believed in the final battle between good and evil.
This belief led to the disaster of the Crusades. A series of wars based on meaningless
mumbo-jumbo. The point about this is that people, the majority, are led towards
moral belief systems that are without reason. This is not just true of the middle ages
but more recently the war in Vietnam which was just as much of a disaster. In the case
of Vietnam the moral mumbo jumbo was based on the idea that if Vietnam fell to
communism then the rest of Asia would also fall.
These tendencies toward the fantastic in Christian expression
reached their literary peak in the works of Dante (1265–1321), whose
Divine comedy depicts the terrifying and attractive visions of Paradise,
Purgatory, and Hell in such a way as to quicken the ultimate powers of the imagination
and thereby draw people toward the possibility of their own salvation.
Most people believed in things like this and this formed a guideline for
a society that was violent misguided and wrong.
It was more or less the same during the so-called Renaissance
notwithstanding the overblown prestige, it has gained.
(The middle ages, everything said and done, was not some dark age that deserves to
be forgotten for there were great innovators who paved the way forward
notwithstanding the guidelines laid down by that society.)
With all this in mind, it has to be said that without civic and moral responsibility
communities become places where it is difficult to live.
We know this from the degradation of some areas of our country.
Virtue ethics are often morals, which is how every individual determines what
is right/good and what is wrong/bad in action.
This, in turn, means that ethics are our guideline to a civilized and well-functioning
society.
For a large part, society determines the existing ethics.
What we can conclude however is that there’s real utility in ethics and thus,
those ethics and human values are important for a balanced, well-functioning society.
Ethics gives us the vision to strive to be the best possible version of our self which benefits ourselves, society, our family and basically the whole world. The point is that with Virtues and morals we become meaningful although
these things cannot take the place of those who ahead of the pack and outside of the
constrictions placed on them by morals in a society nevertheless the majority need
guidelines in how to act . Most people accept the moral guideline of a society even if
it based on untruth, we can only hope that the moral guideline is created by people who
have decent and reasonable ideas if not then the masses can be turned into concentration
camp monsters along with the idea that they think what they are doing is moral.
Decent morals It guides us towards the proper way of conducting ourselves in the world.
Violent behaviour for example is not tolerated in our western society and is considered
unethical behaviour.
If you hit someone in the face then there will be consequences in the form of a fine or
jail time. Some of the most critical voices opinionating on society are those who have
done very little themselves and whose complaints are their only contribution to society
and a liking for pseudo-moral conviction.
This obviously goes hand in hand with intelligence as it is also the ability to understand
what a negative action really means. It often means to say something that you want to be
true but has no basis in fact therefore negating any moral action. We can think about
recent demonstrations over the world which cannot be proved to be true as
in the case of police violence. Also, we can think about the pulling down of statues that
negate all witting or unwitting history. The first step towards Big Brother.
.
Very often we see those who think they have morality on their side causing violence in
the streets to people who have nothing to do with their protest but just happened to be
in the way. This is not an idea but something clear to all.
Exhibitionism disguised as a protest or our friends. Much of what we do as regards
false Morality is basically to look good in the face of others. Most groups do this.
We can also see the negation on Covid by David Icke who is
a well-known opinion maker in the UK who spread the idea all over social media that
covid simply did not exist even though he has no idea of virology
and seemingly very little idea that spreading falsity on something that can kill people
is a total lack of morality.
Ethics, which are decided by our western society determine that violence is wrong and
thus society/government delivers punishment to violent people
to deter them from aggressive behaviour in the future.
Aggression does not have to be physical
but you can have blood on your hands simply by doing what Icke and others did and do.
The point is that many actually believe them.
It is said men very often hit women and also cause lots of mental pressure on
women mainly those they live with.
This may be true but we would have to know the data and statistics to know if it is true
and this is important because moral duty also means knowing if something is a problem.
Morality as said before also means do not believe in things you only assume to be true
but do not know if they are true.
So to be the first moral duty is to be sure of facts.
Secondly, we should understand that moral duty is anything that helps a fellow citizen.
In my opinion, the worst example of failing to maintain moral duty is that of having a
belief that you have no idea or facts to support it.
Everyone does have them but we should begin to
believe only in things we can prove.
Also before we cast judgements on others we should think about
what we do ourselves.
1. What is the best guideline for a society. Should it be the one we have or something
better?
2, Ordinary people can be turned into monsters because of the morals in a society. Agree ?
3. People can change the morals of the past as Italy did in WW2 . First with Hitler and his
extermination camps then confronting disaster and totally
losing the war they sided with the allies. The morals remembered today are that of siding
with
the allies. So the question is only one is this a way of changing history?
4. As in the above question History is really about morals but should we judge the past
based on morals?
5. What is your strongest moral?
6. Does a society create morals based on its level of scientific advancement ?
