Greater London , that which is outside the City of London corporation (also called the square mile)
is divided into 32 London Boroughs, each governed by a London Borough
The City of London has a unique government dating back to the 12th century and is
separate from the county of Greater London,
The Lord Mayor, as of November 2019, is Vincent Keaveny. The city is made up of 25
wards, with administration at the historic Guildhall.
A ward simply means the care of a certain part of the city and only in the "City of London".
The wards are a survival of the medieval governmental system that allowed very small areas to exist as self-governing units within the wider city.[1] They are both electoral/political sub-divisions and permanent ceremonial, geographic and administrative entities within the city. They had their boundaries changed in 2003, and to a lesser extent in 2013, though the number of wards and their names did not chang

The face of darkness part two
I had no interest whatsoever in her thoughts and opinions whatsoever but was obsessed with her .
The ugly drinking l imagine grew worse and worse . Actually it wasn’t drimking it was just whooping down as much booze as possible in the shortest space of time . She drank Church wine she coukld get cheap and any other rubbish that was cheap. The quality didnt matter.
I never saw her again although from time to time I got messages . I had tried to sweep it all under the carpet but could I? Not really.
Someone told me that she had got the sack from her government job and now had gone back to live with her Mother on one of Italy's great lakes.I thought about that and it was kind of like a retirement from life, her life .But that was always on the cards .But at the end of the day its always a disturbed background that destroys lives and hers had been one.
ADJECTIVES FOR PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
She was a really beautiful woman with the build of a model . One of those ones you see on the Paris catwalks but not so skinny . She was a bit more curvy . I would say she was gorgeous but not that usual gorgeous of blond and blue eyed . A different kind of gorgeous . Dark and moody . She had sleek jet black hair so black that it almost had reflections of blue in the sun . Her mum on the other hand was slightly chubby not fat but chubby . While she was tall her mum was of medium height . When l first went to her house she showed me some photos of herself when she was around 13 to 14 and l saw that then she had been a lanky teenager . Now she had matured into a woman . Sometimes when she put her hair up and took off her make up she looked really cute because she looked much younger than 23 . Make up made her look far more mature . Her friend was a bit dumpy and l think she maybe ate too much . Not really fat but someone who needed to lose a few kilos . Her friend had bushy eyebrows and she should have had them seem to but she seemed not to care .
Over the years l lost sight of her but after around 16 years absence l saw her again and she was still a really fine handsome woman . I mean absolutely a woman you could not not notice .
She said to me that l had got old and l replied yeh that’s true but you’ve become more mature and you are still beautiful . In my mind l thought she had become a handsome woman still beautiful but she had lost that youthful cuteness . I asked her how her mum was and she replied “mama is a bit frail and doesn’t walk very much “ . She said to me “ l see you have lost your beard . I don’t know if l prefer you as clean shaven or with a beard .”

Junkin beef short ribs
By Nichola Wilson
- Preparation time:30 minutes
- Cooking time:3½-4½ hours
Serves: 4
Ingredients
6-8 beef short ribs
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp onion granules
½ tsp celery salt
1 tsp garlic granules
2 tbsp oil
1 bulb garlic, halved horizontally, plus extra finely chopped to serve (optional)
2.5cm piece ginger, peeled and shredded, plus extra finely chopped to serve (optional)
1 onion, chopped
2 sprigs thyme
2 x 500ml packs beef stock
1 tsp light soy sauce
1 stick cinnamon
2 tsp dark brown soft sugar, or to taste
½ x 330ml can beer or lager
1 red chilli or Scotch bonnet, finely sliced
2 salad onions, finely sliced
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 170ºC, gas mark 3. Place the ribs into a food bag and add the paprika, onion granules, celery salt and garlic granules. Season with freshly ground black pepper. Seal the bag and toss well until coated.
2. Warm the oil in a large ovenproof and flameproof casserole dish. Add the ribs, in batches if necessary, and cook for 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until dark brown all over.
3. Add the halved head of garlic, ginger, onion, thyme, beef stock, soy sauce, cinnamon, brown sugar and beer. Bring to the boil, then cover with a tight-fitting lid and place in the oven for 3-4 hours, or until the meat is completely tender.
4. Remove the ribs from the sauce and set aside. Strain the cooking liquid into a clean pan, pressing the soft garlic and other ingredients with a spoon to release their flavour. Bring the liquid to the boil over a high heat and cook for 25-30 minutes, until thick and sticky – like a thick barbecue sauce. Check the seasoning and add more sugar, soy or black pepper, to taste.
5. Return the ribs to the sauce and warm through until piping hot throughout. Serve on a platter with extra finely chopped garlic and ginger scattered over the top if liked, and some red chilli and salad onions to finish. Serve immediately with rice, mashed potatoes or bread, and salad or seasonal vegetables on the side.
Nichola’s tip When there is less time, you can use a pressure cooker to make this recipe too. Cook the ribs for 45-60 minutes, then continue with the recipe from step 3 to reduce the sauce on the hob

Junkie
Ben my friend is addicted to heroin . He has got lots of stories about himself and these stories are all about building himself up .
I understand that because when you are a loser you need some self esteem . Most people are losers in one way or another and junkies are the biggest maybe .Listen to nearly anyone and they are building up lost esteem consciously or unconsciously . Most people don’t know who they are or maybe know who they are but try to hide it . I say this say it how it is but Ben probably has nothing left to hold onto .
His stories are all about the normality of life like buying a home and a car and finding a job . None of these things he day dreams about will ever come to fruition because he is a slave to heroin.
So one day l got irritated with his stories and said .”!Why don’t you come clean and face reality . Your whole life is about H “
His friendly manner changed and he said “ you smoke right and do you think you can stop “?
I replied “ maybe l can “
And he replied “ the hardest thing in the world is to get off Heroin . It’s a million times worse than trying to give up smoking . You should think before you judge “ .
I was a bit ashamed because he was right . I asked him about the life and he went back to its all cool mode .
I talked to him another time and learnt something as he said it’s linked to homelessness . He said nearly all homeless are connected to drugs and a lesser extent booze . The point is said Ben if you need drugs and have the rent or mortgage money you spend the rent money on drugs and thus little by little you become the homeless junkie . Later when you get old and have no money for drugs you become the bag man or bag lady wheeling a supermarket trolly around .
The only goal in a junkies life is the drug . The only thing that stops them killing themselves is little money for if they had money they would buy all the drugs possible and be dead . Overdose .
I like Ben because he’s always cheerful . I meet him a lot at Monza where he scores his drugs . He is always happy when he scores some H . He manages to have a drug life and home life because he lives with his mum .He is always really nice to me and never ever asked me for money so l suppose he must have a way of getting it .
Questions
1. Why is Ben cheerful considering he’s a junkie
2. Do you think he could be cured ? If yes how ?
3. I think we could stop drugs if we have incredible high sentences to drug dealers . What do you think ?
4. Di you think drugs should be legal ?
5 . What’s the worst addiction for you ? Remember an addiction is always something that alters brain patterns
6 . I think that if we don’t legalize drugs then junkies should be forced to give up . What do you think ?
7. Why do people take up addictions ?
8. What is worse a junkie or a dipso ?
The face of darkness . Short story
THE FACE OF DARKNESS
I never realised someone could have a face like hers . It was very unusual and one you very rarely see.
She was not just a fine and handsome woman , but her mobile peony mouth and large
innocent eyes added great eloquence to colour and shape
Dark black hair cascaded around her face and if I'm honest I loved her at first sight.
Her nose wasn't in any way perfect but it suited her .Have you ever noticed that people with
perfect noses are kind of too perfect and thus uninteresting?
Her complexion was remarkably fair and brilliant, her head small, neck not long but
perfect, chin well turned.
She was certainly one of the most attractive women I ever saw in my life.
She had dark dark eyes like coals and not that tall. Every time I saw her my heart soared
even though I knew she was a liar. I liked her straight black hair that shined and her deep
crackly voice, maybe the voice most beautiful I have ever heard even though everyone else disliked it.
Her skin
was healthy looking and very luminous.I knew that I would always love her and the only time I
wouldn't would be when my voice was no longer capable of uttering her name . Can you love someone who is a rat?
Yes I'm the example .The years passed she became a dipso .She lost the cuteness and
frankly had the face of a boozer. Booze had ruined her face not totally but had taken out that
special thing she had had .
She sent me some photos from time to time asking "if Im still
beautiful." I always said "I remember you as you were and that's the way I still see you".
There was once sweet terrible power in that smooth-skinned face of a full oval shape but

London couple who murdered nanny over Boyzone obsession jailed for life
This article is more than 3 years old
Judge says there is no excuse for ‘horrible cruelty’ Sabrina Kouider and Ouissem Medouni inflicted on Sophie Lionnet
Matthew Weaver and agencies
A couple who tortured their French nanny before killing her and throwing her body on a bonfire have been sentenced to life in prison.
Sabrina Kouider, 35, and her partner Ouissem Medouni, 40, were found guilty last month of murdering 21-year-old Sophie Lionnet at their home in Wimbledon, south-west London, last September. The trial heard they had a deluded belief she was in league with Mark Walton, the ex-Boyzone band member turned music mogul, with whom Kouider once had a relationship.
Sentencing the pair, Judge Nicholas Hilliard said there was no excuse for the “horrible cruelty” and “humiliation” they inflicted on Lionnet during taped interrogations before her death.
The two-month Old Bailey trial, which was described as stranger than fiction, heard how Kouider, a fashion designer, was fixated with Walton and believed Lionnet was colluding with him to drug and molest the family. Kouider even tried to implicate Walton in Lionnet’s disappearance.
The judge said allegations Lionnet was plotting with Walton to abuse the family were a “complete fiction” and motivated by a desire for revenge.
Addressing the couple in the dock, he said: “You were both involved in torturing Sophie in the bath in the lead-up to her death in making her think she would drown unless you gave her information you wanted which was not in her power to give because it did not exist.
“The suffering and the torture you put her through before her death was prolonged and without pity.” He said their behaviour had its “origins in cruelty and a desire for revenge”.
The judge told Kouider she was motivated by an unjustified desire to make Lionnet and Walton suffer. He added: “It is plain from all the evidence that Sophie was a kind, gentle and good-natured girl.”
He continued: “I’m sure you knew the way you interrogated her was unacceptable in the extreme, that it was unlawful to assault her and she was in a dreadful state by the time of her death and torturing her in the bath was totally and utterly wrong.”
The court heard how Kouider’s delusional disorder triggered her false belief that Lionnet had been seduced into helping Walton. The prosecution said Walton had shouldered the slurs and responded with “integrity and honesty” when he travelled from Los Angeles to give evidence at the trial.
Over more than eight hours of recorded interrogations, the au pair was slapped, likened to a Nazi collaborator and called “worse than a murderer” by the couple, the court heard.
They confiscated her identity card and phone and stopped paying her in a deliberate campaign to isolate her and force her to confess, the court heard.
In her final days, Lionnet was hit with an electrical cable and beaten so badly she had five fractured ribs and a cracked breast bone.
She appeared broken and emaciated in a filmed confession hours before she was killed in the bath.
The defendants claimed they planned to hand the tape to police as proof against Walton. But the judge suggested it was more likely they would have sent it to the wealthy mogul to force him to give them money.
When firefighters investigated pungent-smelling smoke coming from a bonfire in the couple’s garden, Medouni tried to pass off her charred remains as those of a sheep.
The defendants later admitted disposing of Lionnet’s body but denied her murder, blaming each other for her death.
Kouider acknowledged the suffering she had caused her victim and her family. In a letter, read to the court, she said she was “deeply sorry about what happened to Sophie”.
Addressed “Dear Sophie”, it said: “I’m suffering every day thinking of you and what happened to you that dreadful night. I only wish I could turn the clock back, it never happened and you would be alive with us today.”
In mitigation, Icah Peart QC said the Kouider’s delusional disorder coupled with an emotionally unstable personality disorder had caused her “irrational and completely overwhelming fear” that Lionnet had been recruited by Walton.
He said her behaviour towards the victim was “entirely driven by Kouider’s mental illness in her desperation to obtain evidence of Mr Walton’s abuse”
